We are experienced in claiming payments on account from the Legal Aid Agency.

The Legal Aid Agency allows payments on account for:

  • Disbursements which are already incurred or about to be incurred,
  • Profit Costs.

The Legal Aid Agency will pay 75% of your incurred profit costs upfront during the life of a case in subject with any case specific rules. Payments on Account claims for profit costs for Legal Aid practitioners can help improve a firms cash flow.

The Legal Aid Agency allows the first claim to be made on the three-month anniversary from the issue date of the public funding certificate, no claim for costs is allowed within the first three months. We highly recommend a claim is made upon this anniversary for the Work In Progress (WIP) incurred on your case and the firm will receive 75% of profit costs incurred to date. Subsequent claims can then be made every 6 months. The Legal Aid Agency only allows for 2 claims for payments on account for profit costs to be made within a 12-month period based on a rolling year. A payment on account in relation to disbursements can be applied for in respect of disbursements incurred or about to be incurred under a public funding certificate. We ensure claims are made as swiftly as possible upon receipt of an invoice or a disbursement being incurred.
